City History Trails: Nottingham
A guide to Nottingham City centre's 1500 year history. This is a book of walking trails that you can take around Nottingham, to discover its history. You can choose a trail that interests you: Robin Hood, Architecture, Old Churches, Nottingham's Famous Lace Industry, History for Children, Nottingham Castle Historical area, Historical inns, Caves, Famous Authors, Nottingham's Old Market Square, Crime and Punishment and The Arts. Review: "This book was very much a thoroughly enjoyable read. If you enjoy history and more specifically Nottingham history this book will be ideal. Filled with everything which makes Nottingham famous: caves, Nottingham castle, architecture, the lace industry, Nottingham literary heroes, crime & punishment, the arts and of course Robin Hood, this book covers it all. What makes this book even more appealing is the fact that it has needed to be written now for the last few years. Nottingham has virtually lost all of its old industries, such as the lace industry, Players and Raleigh. With the loss of these industries with have lost the local income and benefits these businesses brought to Nottingham. However, tourism has now slowly replaced these old industries to become a vital asset to the local Nottingham economy. This book is essential to any visiting tourist to the city, as well as a 'must have' to any local. All trails in the book are straight forward and point out all that is interesting in the city, within no more than a mile radius of Nottingham's Old Market Square. This book comes highly recommended by me and will certainly be a book I will continue to refer back to many times regarding Nottingham history". Joe Earp Nottingham Hidden History Team.
